Fash|Art Participants to Win Over $5,000 in Cash & Prizes! 

Nassau, Bahamas - The Bahamas’ premier showcase and competition for new and emerging fashion designers, visual artist and models, is in its second year and bigger than ever! On Saturday 7^th July, 2012, interested persons are welcomed to Doongalik Studios on Village Road north, for a major presentation and the only registration session. During this time, prospective participants will learn more about the show and the dynamic opportunities. 

This year’s showcase has been extended to two days of mixed media art, high fashion and entertainment, for large crowds of spectators, local and international celebrities and regional and international media. Beginning on November 2^nd, night one is dubbed “Cocktails, Couture + Canvas” and will feature participating visual artist competing for the “Jackson Burnside Emerging Visual Artist” award, a signature cocktail lounge and local boutiques selling top fashion and beauty pieces. Night two dubbed “FashionNXT”, will be the weekend’s grand showcase. Participating fashion designers and models will rock the runway and compete in their respective categories for the coveted titles of “Harl Taylor Emerging Fashion Designer” award and “The Next Face” model competition award, respectively. 

Fash|Art objective is to provide a platform of exposure, business and marketing opportunities for emerging Bahamian talents in fashion and visual arts. Through a four-week seminar series, we hope to engage all participants and provide them with ample opportunities for a sustainable future. Winners will also receive $1,000 cash, branding packages, business opportunities with event sponsors and much more!

RIP Don Cornelius

Today we are saddened by the loss of the legendary Don Cornelius. According to published sources, Cornelius was found dead in his home in Sherman Oaks, CA, having passed from a gunshot wound to the head which is believed to be a suicide.

He will be dearly missed.

It always gives me great pleasure to feature the work of individuals I know personally.  I love surrounding myself with talented individuals and Toronto based designer Katherine (Kathy) Phan is one of those people taking her talent and putting it to good use. 

Kathy was recently featured on Martha Stewart's 'Doer Of The Week' an initiative that recognizes young and vibrant entrepreneurs turning their crafts into a business.  Kathy focuses primarily on dope knit pieces that are perfect for the winter climate, chunky and oozing warmth, the pieces are definite must-haves.  Not to mention my Bahamian solider Nick is featured in some of the ads, the perks of being the boyfriend of a designer lol.   Kathy too is pictured modeling some of her very popular pieces.  Anyway if you are interested in any of Kathy's pieces and seeing some of the new items she's going to be adding to the collection make sure to follow her on Twitter or Like her page on Facebook!!
