RIP Steve Jobs

From a lowly start up in his mother's garage to one of the most iconic businessmen of our time, Steve Jobs has definitely left an indelible mark on the world of business.  Steve Jobs was a man who was not only inspiring but also a shrewd businessmen who had a vision that he never let waiver.  Apple, has become one of the most powerful companies in the world and it was mainly due to persistence, innovation and tenacious marketing.  I remember seeing those colorful Mac computers back in the 90's and being fascinated.  Fast forward 18 years later and Mac's computers are still beautiful with a very minimalist sensibility.  Although I would not label myself an Apple-Head per say, I am a huge fan of the iPhone series and the iPod.  iPhones and iPods have helped to revolutionize the telecommunications and music industries respectively.  Steve Jobs is to thank for all of this, so even if you never bought into the Apple hype you have to respect the man's hustle.  Steve's passing comes on the heels of the announcement for the newest Apple iPhone 4S which I will now dub the iPhone 4 Steve!

RIP Steve Jobs, dead at the age of 56, he leaves behind a wife, his four children and his billion dollar empire.

What do you think is next for Apple going forward without Mr. Jobs?

Let's remember Steve Jobs with one of his most memorable speeches at Stanford University's 2005 commencement!

The Fash | Art Event 11.5.11

Fash|Art is an event platform created for emerging Bahamian fashion designers and visual artists to showcase their talent and present them with career launching opportunities.

In 2010, certified Project Manager, event producer & fashion enthusiast Kedar Clarke, created the concept during his tenure as Operations Manger of Mode Iles Ltd, producers of the renowned Islands of the World Fashion Week. “I’ve been able to meet designers from all around the world, most of whom are supported within their homeland. For me it was quite embarrassing to know that in The Bahamas, we offered no substantial or consistent outlet for fashion designers or visual artists to express their creativity outside of their small circles. I was determined and excited to get to work on making Bahamians see and respect our own world-class, talented citizens”.
Mr. Clarke has since partnered with creative geniuses and visual artists, Scharad Lightbourne & Nikolas Barnes, editors of the online publication Stylezine Magazine, which highlights individuals within the art, fashion and entertainment industries. “The partnership with these two powerhouses emphasizes my vision even further; to see young, capable minds direct others down the pathway of greater success”, says Mr. Clarke.
Fash|Art is set to take place on Saturday November 5, 2011 at Doongalik Studios.
Fash|Art is a bi-annual event tailored to give designers and artists in varied age and years of experience range the opportunity to showcase and compete for coveted titles and prizes.

Do Relationships = Automatic Marriage

I know this will be a controversial post, so bring your popcorn, crack your fingers and get comfy this will be a bumpy ride as we navigate the ins and outs of what many of us THINK of relationships and the future.  I have a very strong feeling (based on some of my responses to my comments on Twitter) that this may turn into a Venus vs Mars debate with lines clearly being drawn in the sand but hey. This is why men have that Y chromosome that makes MOST of us SLIGHTLY (understatement of the year) different from our beautiful female counterparts.

I'll just hop right into it, I do not think that ALL men and women pursue each and every relationship they enter with the intention to get married.  -dodges tomatoes and other sharp objects being thrown- As ludicrous as this notion may seem I think this is really hinges on age.  I believe in marriage, wholeheartedly I do, I believe that there is the perfect match for everyone out there and you have to do some sifting through the rubble to find your match but they are there.  For most people I do not believe this innate, almost primal desire to find a life partner does not begin until after the age of 23.  I mean we live in a Western society (most of us at least) gone are the days when by 20 you had already popped out 1 kid with maybe another on the way and you were at home slaving over a Hamburger Helper meal while your man worked outside the home.  I mean today we live in a Generation Me society, the product of the Fast Food Revolution, we want everything we have dreamed of and we will achieve our goals before settling down, let's face reality here people its FACT.You can not tell me when you were 19, 20, 21 years old and hopping into a new relationship you had marriage on your mind.  At this point lets be real you just turned legal, probably just learned how to wash your butt properly and pee without splashing on the seat.  You had a person who you liked, would be a good INTERIM companion to get you through those LIFE PURSUIT years and then who knew what would happen after. -insert a Yeezy shrug-This isn't to say the 21 year old boyfriend/girlfriend could not blossom into a long-term, life-long commitment with a wedding ceremony in the Dominican.  No this is to say the likelihood of that happening when you are probably working hard to pursue your own, INDIVIDUAL goals that might include traveling, post-graduate overseas, interning in a small African village building wells a relationship at this point may fall by the wayside.I believe the marriage thought really enters the fray is when you're back and you're facing that Quarter Life Crisis that the lil homey Luvvie talked about in here Clutch Magazine article.  Its at that age of 24-25, we are done school and searching for our purpose in life.  Believe it or not this is what many of us are facing, we are versatile, flexible and extraordinarily talented but we have no clue yet what to do with all the bonuses that make us who we are.  Soul-searching is definitely needed, even when you were thinking of marriage, think back on how many times you may have been on the marriage tip but your partner was not there yet, they may have had all of their INDIVIDUAL goals left to pursue.I'll wrap this diatribe up by saying that I love the notion of marriage, I love the pursuit of happiness and eternal bliss.  Do I want to point fingers and say women have idealized this notion that every relationship is potentially marriage.. UH YEAH but hey not all women just as some men see it that way as well.  I will not however, delude myself into believing every relationship will end in marriage for reasons I have theorized earlier.  We pursue relationships for a multitude of reasons, some may have marriage on the brain others definitely do not.  Plain and simple, the older you get however, I believe the more secure you become in yourself as a grown up, the more stable you become the more your thought process entertains the idea of finding a mate to build a nest with a Prius, Golden Retriever named Comet and a split level house in a nice suburb (YOU SEE IT!!)-drops mic, turns off lectern light, folds up glasses-

The Sartorial FIles: Sperry Top-SIder Cloud Logo Authentic 7-Eye Boot

The Shoe Gods are pleased.. Let us rejoice!

First of all curses to the Sperry Gods and what not for that long convoluted ass name, the word ORIGINAL was also supposed to be thrown in that title up above but I didn't have time or the keystrokes to waste so I shortened.. YALL WILL DEAL BRO! Praises however, are in order to the Sperry Gods for paying homage to my love of all things Cloud!! They knew what they were doing when they created this beautiful pair of boots and included it with their Cloud line!!

These are the definition of a proper FALL BOOT!! The boat shoe sole means they won't be appropriate for the snowy weather, but the brisk fall season  before the slush and salt.  Yup, Sperry has you covered! (FOR MY LADIES) ASOS Slash Neck Lace Dress

There is something inherently romantic about lace, the way it hugs the nooks and crannies of a woman's body tells the unspoken tales of time.  Yes, lace is quite alluring, playing peak-a-boo with a voyeur's willing eye.  This dress by ASOS is no different and at $68.96, I would say this is quite a steal.  Available in a variety of colors (the black dress being my pick) this is definitely a number that will woo any man.

'The Ridiculously Opulent': Aquarium Sink

When baby girl posted the link for Wanelo on my website I knew she was on to something special.  When I actually visited Wanelo to say I was blown away would be an understatement.  This fish aquarium sink is one of those things you would expect to see on the other side of the wardrobe that leads you into Narnia!  I mean how cool would it be to brush your teeth, pop a pimple or floss over such a cool invention??

Yes it retails for $4,500 (not including fish) but hey this bad boy will make you want to spend all the more time getting proper at the sink, washing your hands and keeping it clean!  Oh its in stock by the way just in case you wanted to put your order in over at Opulent Items.

The Transparent Canoe Kayak

Wow, check out this exquisite transparent canoe by Hammacher Schlemmer.  Definitely one of those things that requires crystal clear turquoise waters -coughs BAHAMAS,shameless plug sneeze- to appreciate the true beauty of this dynamic piece.  It retails for $1600 dollars and ups the romantic and breath-taking ante by a trillion if you take your Queen out for a row down a stream.

"This canoe-kayak hybrid has a transparent polymer hull that offers paddlers an underwater vista of aquatic wildlife and waterscapes unavailable in conventional boats. Seating two people, the sturdy canoe hull is made of the same durable material found in the cockpit canopies of supersonic fighter jets."

Jack Layton's Final Words to Canadians

The news broke earlier this morning, that NDP Leader Jack Layton had lost his harrowing battle to cancer.  I couldn't help but feel a sense of helplessness and utter despair.  Cancer had stolen another individual destined for greatness.  A life cut far too soon as his future was certainly bright.  But why did I feel this way? You see I never had the opportunity to vote in a Canadian Federal election as I am still an international student.

However, I have stood by on the sidelines and watch this passionate individual take his country on his back and achieve what many thought of as the impossible.  Jack Layton's legacy is one that will be remembered forever, even if many Canadians didn't necessarily trust him with their vote, they (myself included) always admired his tenacity and ambition.

Gone far too soon, just as he was about to reach the crescendo of his political career Jack Layton became cancer's latest prolific victim at the age of 61.  My condolences go out to his wife Olivia, his two children, his family, his party and of course the many Canadians whose lives he touched.  May his soul rest in eternal and loving peace.

Here are Jack's final words he penned from his death bed to Canada:

LV

August 20, 2011
Toronto, Ontario
Dear Friends,
Tens of thousands of Canadians have written to me in recent weeks to wish me well. I want to thank each and every one of you for your thoughtful, inspiring and often beautiful notes, cards and gifts. Your spirit and love have lit up my home, my spirit, and my determination.
Unfortunately my treatment has not worked out as I hoped. So I am giving this letter to my partner Olivia to share with you in the circumstance in which I cannot continue.
I recommend that Hull-Aylmer MP Nycole Turmel continue her work as our interim leader until a permanent successor is elected.
I recommend the party hold a leadership vote as early as possible in the New Year, on approximately the same timelines as in 2003, so that our new leader has ample time to reconsolidate our team, renew our party and our program, and move forward towards the next election.
A few additional thoughts:
To other Canadians who are on journeys to defeat cancer and to live their lives, I say this: please don’t be discouraged that my own journey hasn’t gone as well as I had hoped. You must not lose your own hope. Treatments and therapies have never been better in the face of this disease. You have every reason to be optimistic, determined, and focused on the future. My only other advice is to cherish every moment with those you love at every stage of your journey, as I have done this summer.
To the members of my party: we’ve done remarkable things together in the past eight years. It has been a privilege to lead the New Democratic Party and I am most grateful for your confidence, your support, and the endless hours of volunteer commitment you have devoted to our cause. There will be those who will try to persuade you to give up our cause. But that cause is much bigger than any one leader. Answer them by recommitting with energy and determination to our work. Remember our proud history of social justice, universal health care, public pensions and making sure no one is left behind. Let’s continue to move forward. Let’s demonstrate in everything we do in the four years before us that we are ready to serve our beloved Canada as its next government.
To the members of our parliamentary caucus: I have been privileged to work with each and every one of you. Our caucus meetings were always the highlight of my week. It has been my role to ask a great deal from you. And now I am going to do so again. Canadians will be closely watching you in the months to come. Colleagues, I know you will make the tens of thousands of members of our party proud of you by demonstrating the same seamless teamwork and solidarity that has earned us the confidence of millions of Canadians in the recent election.
To my fellow Quebecers: On May 2nd, you made an historic decision. You decided that the way to replace Canada’s Conservative federal government with something better was by working together in partnership with progressive-minded Canadians across the country. You made the right decision then; it is still the right decision today; and it will be the right decision right through to the next election, when we will succeed, together. You have elected a superb team of New Democrats to Parliament. They are going to be doing remarkable things in the years to come to make this country better for us all.
To young Canadians: All my life I have worked to make things better. Hope and optimism have defined my political career, and I continue to be hopeful and optimistic about Canada. Young people have been a great source of inspiration for me. I have met and talked with so many of you about your dreams, your frustrations, and your ideas for change. More and more, you are engaging in politics because you want to change things for the better. Many of you have placed your trust in our party. As my time in political life draws to a close I want to share with you my belief in your power to change this country and this world. There are great challenges before you, from the overwhelming nature of climate change to the unfairness of an economy that excludes so many from our collective wealth, and the changes necessary to build a more inclusive and generous Canada. I believe in you. Your energy, your vision, your passion for justice are exactly what this country needs today. You need to be at the heart of our economy, our political life, and our plans for the present and the future.
And finally, to all Canadians: Canada is a great country, one of the hopes of the world. We can be a better one – a country of greater equality, justice, and opportunity. We can build a prosperous economy and a society that shares its benefits more fairly. We can look after our seniors. We can offer better futures for our children. We can do our part to save the world’s environment. We can restore our good name in the world. We can do all of these things because we finally have a party system at the national level where there are real choices; where your vote matters; where working for change can actually bring about change. In the months and years to come, New Democrats will put a compelling new alternative to you. My colleagues in our party are an impressive, committed team. Give them a careful hearing; consider the alternatives; and consider that we can be a better, fairer, more equal country by working together. Don’t let them tell you it can’t be done.
My friends, love is better than anger. Hope is better than fear. Optimism is better than despair. So let us be loving, hopeful and optimistic. And we’ll change the world.
All my very best,
Jack Layton

STYLEZINE says…How to dress for a date.

Fellas,
There is only one way to guarantee she will want a second date with you, even if its just to see you again. Dress to impress her by following these 5 easy steps. Now ladies, it may be different for you. You hardly have to try as hard as we do, men are not as image-thinking creatures as you are but we try but hopefully this helps.

1. Try hard but not TOO hard.
Guys in this instance, you wanna be smart about what you wear but not take the entire night to figure out what to wear, women should be the ones who take longer to get ready, not us. Simple is better.

2.Your W's speak for you.
Now, don't take this literally but your wallet and watch can say a lot about you once she sees you. Your dinner watch should be simple, clean and refined. "BLING" will not impress her. When you pull your wallet out, do you want it to say "I'm 12" or "I'm a man?" Stick to something simple, a brown or black leather wallet will do just fine. If not, a money clip is always the next best thing. You're already scoring points by paying for the date, don't kill it by pulling out some Mickey Mouse or Transformer graphic on your plastic wallet. #epicfail.Simple is better.

3. Graphic Tees are cool but not THAT cool!
Especially for a dinner date. Maybe if you're going to the beach or to run a quick errand but trust me, she's judging everything about you from the first time she sees you and PLEASE no Ed Hardy, that's so 2000 and late. Simple is better.

4. The Blacker the jean, the ....
We don't know how this statement is supposed to end but dark denim is def better, no rips, no tears, no washes. Keep it simple and no boot-cut please, that's so 70s!
5. Because shoes complete it all...
Yeah we know, we've already said it but she's going to look at your shoes too, so make sure they are at least clean! Loafers always work best. Socks are optional but if you have smelly feet, we suggest wearing a pair or simple ones.

Other things you should know.
  • Wear a good scent but do NOT bathe in it, let her see you before she smells you.
  • Dress more for casual and not business unless your date is in a conference room.
  • Please at all costs wear clean, solid colour underwear (cause you never know where the date "may" end up)

Jay-Z & Kanye West - Otis Official Music Video

The video for Kanye West and  Jay-Z, collectively known as  The Throne premiered last night and bruh I'm gonna make this my new end of the summer anthem.  The video makes it seem like Ye and Hov are to just fun to hang out with and shoot the breeze.

But my heart cracked a little bit when they took that blowtorch to the Maybach and made it into something that West Coast Customs and Xzibit would curl up in a corner and weep over.  Looks fun as hell to ride in but I mean tell me that isn't NASTY RICH, JUST FILTHY! To just destroy a 500k + car and.. Yeah, throws my diamond in the sky!!

P.S. Watch The Throne hit the #1 spot in 23 countries... Your fave could NEVER...

Au- Natural : To Be Or Not To Be?

Okay, we ALL know the saying, " diamonds are be a girl's best friend", but is that entirely true?   HELL NO!...    Sadly, diamonds have been replaced with make-ups and hair extensions ( did I mentioned caused almost half of their pay cheques?) , that has become more like a habit to some females.  While some ladies wear their makeups and weaves to look good, others take it to another extend and cherish it as a "work of art."

On the other side of gender, guys prefer women to rock that "natural look" No heavy makeups, fake eyelashes or weaves. Just their natural skin & hair so they can run their fingers through.  Spending $110 just to wear another human's hair on your head or over $200 just to put a mask on your face, just might turn a guy off.  Dont get me wrong, guys like it when their lady look attractive but NOT scary. Mos def, diamonds will still be a girl's bestfriend, but makeup and weaves are a bit more closer.

(Even if it leaves them broke.)

Flashback In The Past

If you were a kid in the late 80's mid 90's, your life basically revolved around watching Saved By The Bell or the Fresh Prince Of Bel Air (by the way the re-runs are still hilarious), you probably carried your portable cd player and listened to tunes like Big Poppa, California Love or Missy Elliot's Supa Dupa Fly.

Pause for a moment and lets take a flashback down memory lane when you use to wear those baggy jeans like TLC, Feeling like Cyndi Lauper in your leggins, rocking your snap back hat like Tupac, or normally looking stylish in your clogs shoes that could be described as "chunky".  Thinking about it now probably causes you to pause and be like " WHAT THE HELL WAS I THINKING?"

Now lets fast forward to a few years later...  Those same leggins what you shred to pieces and that snap back hat what you threw in the garbage have now all suddenly became the "IT" thing to wear now. You probably thought that your childhood attire was to be left alone and repressed in the darkest corners of our minds  But you are so WRONG!

You may have realize the strong return of snapback hats and thinking to yourself why did I threw it away?  Or walked passed window shopping and remembered how you chipped your clog shoes in Walmart but lets face it,  no matter how much you try to forget your childhood attire from back in the day it always comes back.

Christian Louboutin - Louis Python Crystal Sneakers

Look what landed on my inbox!! Pure DYLANESS (Hot Fiyah) by way of Christian Louboutin, thanks to my Cloud 10 Residents who keep me abreast of the latest dope stuff that may slip beneath my radar.  Thanks to my Pi bruh Ed for posting this on my Facebook! This was definitely a site to behold.

In their ever expanding endeavor to move away from just being known as a posh ladies shoe line to  a men and women's based collection; Christian Louboutin's Fall/Winter 2011 Collection includes these AWESOME pair of patent python all black sneakers. They have an exotic appeal and a shiny black snakeskin covered design with python scale texture. They also feature black laces, black rubber soles and Christian Louboutin’s signature red bottom. Of course with anything Red Bottom'd their going to set you back a mortgage payment or 3 but hey for $1,495 you will be SWAGGED OUT!!

Coloured Chinos

So we now know that jeans are a main staple in every guys closet but honestly, men are starting to become a little bit more creative in their fashion sense as well. Coloured chinos aka Khakis with colour are becoming quite popular these days and look real good. They are comfortable like a khaki pant but colored to mix up your style a bit. They can be dressed up, dressed down or funk-da-fied (sorry Da'Brat, we had to bring that one back).
